The International Interdisciplinary Conference is organised by the School of Ancient Language and Text Studies at North-West University, Potchefstroom in collaboration withUNISA, Pretoria. The conference is the second activity of the newly established research group on Late Antiquity Studies of the focus group on Ancient Texts: Text, Context and Reception of the School of Ancient Language and Text Studies.
The conference aims at the study of religious and philosophical syncretistic tensions and interactions, as reflected in Late Antiquity texts (3rd to 7th c. A.D.). It intends to highlight the interreligious character of some texts. It shall also examine personal religious attitudes, notions of theurgy, the mysteries, magic and philosophical approaches. The conference is focused on the study of religious and philosophical texts from Late Antiquity, such as Patristic literature, Jewish and Syriac religious texts, Neoplatonism, Magic, the Chaldaean Oracles, Gnosticism, Hermetica and the Coptic Nag Hammadi Library.
A selection of papers will be published in a peer-reviewed edition.
Presentation time of papers should be about 20 minutes.
