CALL:

For immediate distribution to all interested parties- please forward where appropriate. Hello all, We are excited to announce that the 27th annual Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC), will be held at Durham University in Durham, England from 28 to 31 March, 2017. TRAC Durham, organized by the Departments of Archaeology and Classics, will be a multidisciplinary symposium of theoretical innovation in Roman scholarship. Located to the south of Hadrian’s Wall in Durham City, conference goers will be surrounded by a nuanced and lively Roman landscape, which this conference aims to engage with and celebrate—2017 marks the 30-year anniversary of Hadrian’s Wall as a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site. The TRAC 2017 Call for Sessions is now open, and will close on the 16th of September. We invite all submissions that critically engage with aspects of current theory and practice in Roman archaeology and scholarship, especially those that consider the impact of heritage and the public. Please consider: · A TRAC session should consist of 6-8 papers. · Papers may last no longer than 20 minutes, discussion to occur at the end of sessions. · All papers must be presented in English. Those wishing to organize a session for TRAC 2017 should submit: · A proposed title of the session. · Name, affiliation and email of the organizer(s). · An abstract of no more than 350 words detailing the proposed topic, content, and aims. · A list of potential speakers and proposed titles of papers. · We will only accept closed sessions in exceptional circumstances- please leave a minimum of 3-4 slots open for the Call for Papers. Submissions should be sent by email to the Durham 2017 Organizing Committee at trac.2017@durham.ac.uk. All session proposals will go through a review process, and there is no guarantee that proposed sessions will be selected as part of the TRAC 2017 program. The degree to which each session critically and coherently engages with archaeological theory will be a key factor of the Committee’s decision. Session proposers will be informed of the Committee’s decision by email in the end of September. The deadline for the submission of session proposals is 16 September, 2016. A Call for Papers will follow in early October, which will include the selected sessions.
