The Organising Committee of the international Conference “Society and Innovation in 4th3rd century B.C.E. Etruria” invites all scholars working on Late Etruscan archaeology to submit the results of their recent researches on the topic.
Members of the Scientific Committee of the Conference are dr. Simona Carosi, prof. Paul Fontaine, dr. Vincent Jolivet, dr. Pietro Tamburini and prof. Mario Torelli. The event is organised under the Patronage of the Istituto Nazionale di Studi Etruschi ed Italici, the Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per l’Area metropolitana di Roma, la Provincia di Viterbo e l’Etruria Meridionale, the Roman Archaeological Association GAR, the Sistema Museale del Lago di Bolsena, the Municipality of Farnese, the Museo Civico «F. Rittatore Vonwiller» and the Riserva Naturale Regionale Selva del Lamone.
The Conference is part of the program of events devoted to celebrate the twenty years of archaeological activity (19962016) at the Late Etruscan fortress of Rofalco (Farnese, VT). Furthermore, the Conference is a wonderful opportunity to disseminate your research in the setting of the amazing medieval San Francesco Theater located at the center of Bolsena (VT). On Sunday 23, trips to Bolsena, Vulci and Rofalco will be arranged.
The Conference is a perfect chance to address the specific issues of that interesting and controvesial period, as recent discoveries and researches are expanding dramatically our knowledge of Etruscan and Roman societies. The Conference is especially devoted to the Late Etruscan archaeology (4th3rd century B.C.E.), the social and economic issues, the military architecture and the fortified settlements, with a special focus on Vulci. The main themes addressed by the Conference are: the multifaceted relation between capitals, minor settlements and borders; the fortified centres and the control of the territory; the role played by the sacred places; Vulci and its territory.
During the two days of the meeting several papers by invited international scholars will be presented, together with an open poster session. Please submit a proposal for posters to bedisplayed at the Conference venue. Contributions may present field projects, research findings, program implementation and results, or innovative approaches to the topic.
Selected posters will be available to the public for the entire period of the Conference and will provide participants with insights into state of the art of the Late Etruscan studies.
Poster submission guidelines: No registration fee is required. Attendance at the Conference is strongly recommended since poster authors must present and discuss their posters at the Conference Hall.
Please submit the following to etruschi.lamone@gmail.com by September 25th, 2016 : 1. A pdf file of th e poster (please follow the f ormat & style guidelines here below).
2. One page summary to include the following: a) full contact information for the author(s) of the poster (name, affiliation, email); b) poster title (maximum 12 words); c) three keywords; d) description of research context and chronology; research goals; evidence considered and methods used; results and lessons learned. (This one page summary will be inserted in the Conference Program booklet.) 3. A signed poster release form for each author. The file up to 25MB can be sent as attachment to the submission email; greater file must be sent using WeTransfer.
Poster Selection Process: The Organising Committee will review all proposals that follow the poster submission guidelines. Abstracts will be evaluated on: 1. relevance and timeliness in terms of archaeological issues/practices; 2. content substance and clarity of presentation; 3. appropriateness to poster session format. The Organising Committee reserves the right to refuse to accept any poster at its discretion.
Acceptance: Notification on acceptance decision will be sent via email by October 2nd, 2016. Due to the number of proposals expected and to logistic constraints, the Committee wishesto stress that acceptance of Poster presentations (relevance to the proposed theme being equal) will work on a ‘first come, first accepted’ basis. If needed, the Committee will give feedback to improve the selected posters.
Printing and Delivery: Selected contributors are responsible for preparing and printing the poster (in accordance with the format and style guideline). The printed posters must be delivered to the Conference staff upon arrival at Bolsena or be shipped reasonably in advance to: Luca Pulcinelli, Via Giuseppe Di Bartolo, 22 00136 Roma, Italy.
Display at the Conference: The Conference staff will mount the posters the day 1 of the Conference. The posters will be on display during the two days of the Conference for all the attendees to read and examine. A list of posters with summaries will also be printed in the Conference Program booklet.
Poster publication: Full poster content will be published on the Conference Proceedings. The guidelines for the final publication will Be given later on.
Poster discussion: Presenters attending at the Conference are expected to remain by their board to discuss their research/projects during the break times of the program.
