CALL:
The Society for Neo-Latin Studies is organising a one-day event to give postgraduate and post-doctoral researchers opportunities to discuss ideas, meet other scholars in the discipline, and present papers on their current research. This will be the fifth in a successful series of meetings the Society has organised for researchers at relatively early stages of their careers. Masters and PhD students, as well as students who have recently received their doctorates, are encouraged to attend; advanced undergraduate students considering a postgraduate career are also very welcome. In the past, participants have come from a variety of departmental and disciplinary backgrounds, including classics, cultural and intellectual history, literary studies, philology, philosophy, rhetoric, and textual scholarship. This will be a one-day event, and will include talks from senior scholars in the discipline as well as research papers from earlier career scholars on their current work. Another session will focus on selected recently published research in Neo-Latin studies which has adopted distinctive and innovative approaches and which will be pre-circulated to all participants to discuss on the day. We invite proposals from any interested postgraduate or post-doctoral researchers to give 20-minute papers on their work. The papers will be organised into three-speaker panels on related topics. Proposals should take the form of a brief outline of the speaker’s affiliation and research interests; an abstract of the paper to be given (100-150 words) and a provisional paper title. Proposals should be submitted by the deadline of February 1st 2017 and speakers will be notified as soon as possible of the outcome of the selection process. Proposals should be submitted via email to the organiser Sarah Knight (sk218@le.ac.uk); if you have any questions or require any further information about the event, please also contact Professor Knight.
