CALL:

The UK Punic Network Graduate Workshop creates an opportunity for graduate students working on Phoenician and Punic topics at Masters and Doctoral level to meet and discuss their work with students and staff with similar interests based at other universities. It has taken place in the past at Glasgow University (2009, 2011), Oxford University (2010, 2013, 2014), Durham University (2015), Bristol University (2016), and in 2017 will return to Oxford, sponsored by the Oxford Centre for Phoenician and Punic Studies (http://punic.classics.ox.ac.uk).

The Workshop is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 29 March 2017 at the Classics Centre at 66 St Giles’, 10am to 7pm, ending with a keynote lecture by Carolina López-Ruiz (Ohio State).

In keeping with the Workshop’s tradition, there will be two types of presentations: one of c.20-25 minutes to report on research that is well underway or (nearly) completed, and one of c.5-10 minutes to signal work that is just beginning, or to try out specific ideas.

Those interested in presenting work should send a title and an abstract of up to 250 words by Friday, 20 January 2017, and indicate whether the contribution is a longer or shorter paper. Those interested in just attending the workshop should contact us to register by the same date, as space is limited. Please also email us with any other queries at punic@classics.ox.ac.uk.

Lunch and refreshments will be provided on the day, but we are unable to assist with travel or (if necessary) accommodation expenses. UK-based graduate students are reminded that they can apply to the Wiedemann Fund for assistance with travel expenses (http://www.thomaswiedemann.org.uk/). Accommodation should be readily available in Oxford as the event falls in the university Vacation; as a first port of call we recommend http://www.universityrooms.com/en/city/oxford/home.
