CALL:

In recent years there has been a growing interest in ancient man-made terraces. Archaeologists have been observing them, documenting them and looking at their role in water management, agriculture and landscapes, hoping to discover areas of environmental and climatic change. In the past few years, partnerships with researchers interested in geology and hydrology have resulted in further advances. The designs of man-made terraces are varied according to sites, the period and differing local prerequisites which are closely linked to geological formations, hydrological and climatic conditions. Therefore, we believe an interdisciplinary approach is paramount when studying ancient terraces. In order to fulfil these different areas of research, the forthcoming workshop will be organised as a joint venture with the Center for the Study of Natural and Cultural Heritage (German Jordanian University), the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology (DEI) and with the support of the German Archaeological Institute (DAI). Our aim is for the workshop to facilitate the discussion of ongoing projects and develop ideas for the future as well as to disseminate results from related studies. We would like to encourage researchers from different fields to participate. The workshop will be held in English. Date: 10−11 September 2017 Location:

The workshop will be held on the campus of the German Jordanian University (Amman). We invite all attendees to join us for the conference dinner on the 10th of September in the garden of the German Protestant Institute of Archaeology (Amman). Conditions for Submission of Abstracts:

Individuals who wish to participate are asked to submit their abstracts in English (150-200 words). Deadline for submitting the abstracts: 15 April 2017 For submission of abstracts and complementary information please contact: Prof. Nizar Abu-Jaber (Director for the Center for the Study of Natural and Cultural Heritage, German Jordanian University): mailto:Nizar.abujaber@gju.edu.jo
