CALL:

The 2018 colloquium will explore the theme, “Religion and Empire: Agency and Intersecting Identities,” and will focus on Rome and the surrounding areas. Our site visits and discussions will focus on the topography, architecture, institutions, and objects found at the intersections of political, economic, and religious interests.

Colloquium participation includes 5 primary activities:

  1. Orientations with specialists; we have regular meetings with archaeologists and other scholars about the significance of sites and about recent discoveries.

  2. Site visits to excavations and museums.

  3. Participant presentations; every participant makes a short presentation about her/his work, followed by general discussion.

  4. Plenary sessions: time devoted to open discussion of themes from site visits and presentations.

  5. Informal conversations over meals, in the bus, and elsewhere.

The application consists of a CV and a 1-2 page description of your research or teaching project that would benefit from participation in the colloquium.

The colloquium is limited to 12 participants.
