The Cassius Dio Network invites doctoral students to a two-day seminar on Cassius Dio 15-16 of January at the University of Southern Denmark in Odense. The seminar will focus on a historiographical approach with introductory papers on Dio’s contemporary world (Andrew G. Scott, Villanova University), Dio as an historical eyewitness (Jesper M. Madsen, University of Southern Denmark), speeches in Dio (Christopher Burden-Strevens, Kent University) and civil war in Dio (Carsten H. Lange, Aalborg University). Students are furthermore invited to present work in progress related to Dio. The work will be pre-circulated and students will be responsible for commenting on one paper each. Selection will be made based on the abstract. Abstracts of 300 words should be submitted to majbom@sdu.dk by 1 September 2017. Those whose abstracts are accepted should plan to submit work in progress by 1 December 2017. There is no fee to participate. The network will provide catering in the course if the seminar. Travel cost and accommodation are the responsibility of the seminar participants.
