2017 Annual Meeting of Nag Hammadi and Gnosticism Network - 05-06-07/10/2017, Chapel Hill (NC, USA)

The Nag Hammadi and Gnosticism Network (NHGN) is an international group of scholars dedicated to study of the Coptic treatises contained in the famous Nag Hammadi Codices discovered in 1945, as well as significant related Coptic literature also discovered in Egypt in the modern period. Although this group was originally founded a decade ago as the Nordic Nag Hammadi Network, a change in name was prompted by an increase in participation from North American and Western European scholars in recent years, which led to a shift in the group’s organizational locus out of Northern Europe. The main goal of the group is to further study of this literature by connecting doctoral students and junior scholars who are working on this material.

Each year the NHGN meets on a different university campus (Yale 2011; Princeton 2012; Laval 2014; Harvard, 2015; Austin, 2016). The conference is organized around presentation of doctoral working papers and sessions focused on the reading of a select Coptic text. The practice has been for senior faculty to attend, and for one senior scholar to offer a keynote address.
