CALL:

Contributions to the Senses and Sensibility in the Near East sessions in 2016 and 2017 took a multiplicity of theoretical and methodological approaches in their exploration of senses and sense-making related to objects, spaces, and practices in the Near East, in order to bring to light culturally meaningful sensory experience and modes of representation, reception, perception, and interaction, as well as social and political dynamics of past worlds and human encounters. Specifically in 2017, papers emphasized aspects of intentionality in sensory experience. The goal of the 2018 session is to focus on the impact and affect of particular spheres of activity and the unique and meaningful affordances they offer. Papers will consider how built environments and surrounding space act as fundamental contributors to sensory landscapes and experience in the ancient world.
