CALL. 04.05.2018: Building bridges between Iberian and British Archaeology - Durham (England)

In the post-Brexit horizon, it is important to reinforce the links between British and Iberian Archaeology to secure the future vitality of an already fruitful joint trajectory.This workshop on archaeological research in the Iberian Peninsula intends to bring together researchers working in the UK involved in this region. The main goals for the event are to create and consolidate collaborations between different research teams and academics within the UK; to promote new joint projects; to provide archaeologists based in the UK with more opportunities to secure funding; and to strengthen the relationships between the Spanish, Portuguese and UK archaeological traditions

CALL:

This one-day workshop includes short, ten-minute, presentations from all the participants aiming to encourage them to find synergies and bring together people with similar or complementary backgrounds. A round table to discuss the future of European scope archaeological research in post-Brexit UK and a closing keynote on the expansion of Neolithic along the Mediterranean coast in Iberia by Prof Peter Rowley-Conwy complete the programme, in which socialisation and networking will be prominent.

All archaeologists (PhD students, postdocs, lecturers…) based in the UK working in the Iberian Peninsula are welcome/encouraged to come to Durham University on the 21st of June to present their current projects and to establish new connections between British and Iberian academics.


Registration

To register pleasesend us the registration form complete before the 4th of May, 2018 to iberoarchuk@gmail.com. The abstract (150-200 words) for the 10-minute presentation should reflect broad information about your current or prospect research projects, including potential collaborations and future plans for archaeological investigations in the Iberian Peninsula. We encourage presentations that follow a general scheme based on

(i) a short presentation of your background and your research trajectory, including the main methodological and theoretical approaches applied in your research, and the geographical and chronological scope;

(ii) your current projects, stating your main research questions;

(iii) future plans for prospect projects, and eventual possibilities for stablishing collaborations with other scholars and research groups within the UK.


Fees

The day-long event is free of charge and includes lunch and refreshments. Closing dinner is optional for participants (~ 20 GBP).
