A panel discussion with Prof Liz Prettejohn (York), Prof Nicoletta Momigliano (Bristol), Dr Katherine Harloe (Reading), Dr Andrew Shapland (British Museum), and Dr Alexia Petsalis-Diomidis (St. Andrews). Why does the Greek past fascinate us? Building on recent collective volumes published by the British School at Athens- Cretomania (2017) and Hellonmania (2018) - this panel brings together specialists on Greek material culture to discuss modern responses to and engagements with the Greek past. Topics to be explored include modern versions of the Iliad and the Odyssey, ancient Greek pots in Ottoman Greece, and more recent responses to the ancient worlds of Crete and Greece.
