Transcending Boundaries: Unification and Division in Societies - 09-10/03/2019, Vancouver (Canada)

The processes of unification and division are experienced across all societies, from antiquity into the modern period. How do these processes shape the political, cultural, historical and religious landscapes in which they occur? In what ways are they created, perpetuated or halted within a society? How do they help, or hinder, the creation of boundaries? And how do they manifest in societies, in both tangible and non-tangible ways? In order to explore these phenomena, the questions above, and more, the theme of the 19th Annual Interdisciplinary Graduate Student Conference is the interaction of unification and division within modern and ancient societies.
