Central Asia is a vast region separating and at the same time connecting the civilizations of the Near East, East Asia and the Indian subcontinent with each other and with the nomadic cultures in Siberia and eastern Europe. In itself, it comprises very different environments and lifestyles, thus forming a zone of interface between sedentary and nomadic cultures. In geographical terms, Central Asia is defined as comprising Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Southern Siberia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
