Aristotle's Dialectic and the Sciences - 27-28/08/2020, Montreal (Canada)
Many studies have been devoted to Aristotle’s dialectic and methodology in recent years. Scholars used to maintain that Aristotle’s syllogistic (as is outlined in the Prior Analytics) is a new logic that replaces Aristotle’s early dialectical method. In recent years, however, a new scholarly consensus emerged and Aristotle’s dialectic is no longer regarded as an early device borrowed from Plato and from the Academy, but as a tool which Aristotle will use throughout his career. But what is Aristotle’s dialectic?
