For the first time ever, the 2020 Annual Meetings, hosted by SBL & AAR, will be coming to you! Due to the serious risks to public health posed by Covid-19, the in-person physical meeting scheduled to take place in Boston has been cancelled and the new 2020 Virtual Annual Meetings will be going online November 29-December 10. We are excited about the new opportunity for SBL, AAR, and its members. The new virtual meeting will maintain its traditional sessions and educational opportunities, but in a brand new format. SBL and AAR are committed to providing an innovative scholarly exchange so that every paper accepted has an opportunity for presentation. And the virtual publishing exhibit hall will provide you opportunities to explore the latest publications and resources and the ability to schedule meetings. A virtual meeting will create new possibilities. It will widen access for members without funding or resources to attend an in-person meeting, including international members, students, adjunct and contingent faculty, and independent scholars. It will open up possibilities for both synchronous (live) and asynchronous (recorded) participation. It will allow attendees to avoid the inevitable scheduling conflicts that prevent participation in sessions of interest. And we are working with our publishers to provide the latest publications to all of our virtual audience through an online platform. We appreciate your patience as we update meeting schedules and dates and work to create this new meeting platform. 2020 Annual Meetings Virtual Schedule November 29 Workshops November 30 – December 3 SBL, AAR, Affiliates, and Other Event sessions December 6 Special Programing December 7 – 10 SBL, AAR, Affiliates, and Other Event sessions For SBL sessions taking place Nov 30 to Dec 3 and Dec 7 to 10, most will fall in these time slots: • 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM EST (2 hours) • 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM EST (2 hours) • 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM EST (2 hours)
This schedule allows for maximum participation across multiple time zones. Some sessions will be scheduled outside these time blocks to accommodate presenters from Asia and Oceania.
