CALL:
The Klutznick Chair in Jewish Civilization (Creighton University), the Kripke Center for the Study of Religion and Society (Creighton University), the Harris Center for Judaic Studies (University of Nebraska-Lincoln), and the Schwalb Center for Israel and Jewish Studies (University of Nebraska at Omaha) announce their Thirty-Third Annual Symposium, in Omaha Nebraska, on Sunday, October 25, and Monday, October 26, 2020. Sessions with take place on the campuses of Creighton and UNO and also at the Omaha Jewish Community Center.
Jews have populated urban centers throughout most of their history and in almost all of the places they settled. We are organizing this Symposium to explore the richness and diversity of these experiences, including (but not limited to) art, architecture, and culture. Within these dynamic parameters, the Program Committee seeks proposals that cover any time period or developments from the biblical era to the modern world. We encourage papers from a variety of fields that incorporate different approaches, genres, and media. Whenever possible, we encourage presentations that incorporate visual/audio components. Support for presenters’ transportation and accommodation will be provided. Those selected to participate will make original oral presentations of their material at the Symposium in a manner suited to an audience composed of the general public, undergraduate students, and other scholars. Presenters must also be prepared to submit a version of their presentation written in a scholarly format in accordance with our guidelines. Selected papers will be published in an edited, thematic volume as part of the Studies in Jewish Civilization Series. Proposals should contain a 200-word abstract and a CV; submit them by April 15, 2020, to Leonard Greenspoon, Klutznick Chair, at ljgrn@creighton.edu.
