CALL:
Following the revival of Postgraduate Cypriot Archaeology (PoCA) meeting in 2019, its 17th meeting will be held from 13-15 November 2020 at the Archaeological Research Unit of the University of Cyprus in Nicosia. The long-term aim of PoCA is to provide postgraduate researchers and fresh postdoctoral scholars (i.e within. 6 years since the completion of their PhDs) in Cypriot archaeology with a forum in which to present their work, discuss some central themes of their research, meet people who work in the same area and exchange ideas and information in a friendly and collegial environment. Perceiving the need to cover the entire spectrum of Cyprological studies, PoCA welcomes participants from disciplines other than pure archaeology. In particular, we welcome archaeological, anthropological, art-historical, ethnographic, historical, cultural heritage management and scientific (material investigation and characterisation, computational developments, digitisation processes and spatial analysis) approaches. The meeting is inclusive of all time periods from prehistory to the recent past. Please send your paper proposal with a title, an abstract of no more than 250 words. Also indicate the name, the address and the institutional affiliation (if existing) of the author(s). Papers should be 20 minutes long. Posters may also be accepted. The official language of the conference is English. Authors are encouraged to submit their papers prior to July 05, 2020. Selected papers will be published in the form of a peer-reviewed collection of studies and not as conference proceedings. The keynote lecture will be delivered by the Associate Professor in Byzantine Archaeology and Art, Athanasios Vionis, on the evening of November 13th followed by a welcome reception. There is no registration fee. Attendants, however, will need to make their own travel plans and arrange their own accommodation. During the meeting the organising committee, following voting among the doctoral students and early career researchers, will announce th succession of PoCA. Ideally, candidates (PhD students) for the next organising committee should be there to present their proposal, after securing the support of their Institution.
