CALL. 01.10.2020: 3rd International Colloquium on Ancient Greek Linguistics - Madrid (Spain)

The third International Colloquium on Ancient Greek Linguistics (ICAGL 3) will be held in Madrid in June of 2021. The original series started in Amsterdam 1986 and in 2015 merged with the Italian series of colloquia on Greek linguistics to start the new regular series of colloquia held every three years. The first joint colloquium took place in Rome, Università Tor Vergata. The second one was organized by the University of Helsinki, Finland, in 2018. The next one will be hosted by Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain, in 2021.

This series of colloquia tries to provide an international forum of high level scientific standard to present ongoing research or results already reached by scholars in the field of Ancient Greek linguistics.

This letter is a call for papers, posters and workshops to be presented in Madrid, in June 2021. We invite any linguist working on Ancient Greek interested to present her/his work at the colloquium. The colloquium will accept proposals related to any aspect of linguistics of Ancient Greek, from phonetics to pragmatics, including morphology, syntax, semantics, pragmatics or discourse. The orientation of the papers can be diachronic or synchronic.

The Colloquium will start on Wednesday morning June 23rd and will finish on Friday June 25th. 2021. Depending on the number of papers and workshops accepted for presentation, it remains open the possibility of enlarge the duration of the colloquium in one day, Tuesday June 22nd. An official dinner will be organized on Thursday June 24th.

Those interested should submit their abstracts before October 1st 2021 using the form at https://icaglmadrid2021.home.blog/submissions

The abstract for papers and posters should contain the following aspects:

1. Title

2. Author

3. Institution to which she/he belongs.

4. Indication whether a paper or a poster is intended to be presented.

5. Abstract which should express clearly the aim of the paper, the methodology employed in the investigation and the main results expected/obtained. The longitude of this abstract must be max. 500 words.

6. Bibliographical references.


Workshops proposals should be sent directly via email to the colloquium organisers: icaglmadrid2021@gmail.com

In this case, the abstract should contain the following items:

1. Title

2. Coordinator

3. Institution to which she/he belongs.

4. Name of the other participants and their academic filiation.

5. General abstract which should express clearly the aim of the workshop, the methodology employed in the investigation and the main results expected/obtained. The longitude of this abstract must be max. 500 words.

6. Particular abstracts for the presentations of every one of the participants. These abstracts will respect the template of the individual abstracts (see above), but its longitude must be max. 200 words each one.

6. Bibliographical references.


Notification of acceptance will be given by November 1st 2020.

Each paper will have a time for its presentation of 20 min., followed by 5 min. of colloquium. The working languages of the colloquium are English, French, German, Italian, Spanish and Greek.
